50 Avenue de l'Opéra

A few months ago, I completed this large painting for a friend as a 50th wedding anniversary gift. I've known them for 40 of those 50 years, so it was a particularly meaningful commission. The image is also based on a photo I shot on my first trip to Paris in 1981 (also 40 years ago!) and takes inspiration from some of my favorite paintings of Paris by Gustave Caillebotte and Camille Pissarro. My friends have lived in London and Paris over the years, and are based here in Utah, so the spiral of macarons is a not-so-subtle shout out to Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty - a motif I have used in many of my paintings. The painting now hangs in the couple's apartment in downtown Salt Lake City. I love it when my paintings find great homes, and when I have easy "visitation rights!"
